Membership
The mission of the O-BFSR SIG is to act to expand applications of behaviour science and cultural analysis addressing social issues, particularly those with social justice, human rights, and environmental implications.
Objectives of the O-BFSR SIG include:
expanding and strengthening the community of behaviour analytic scientists working in areas of societal and global importance;
providing mutual motivative operations and reinforcement for this work, while supporting and challenging each other in deepening it;
encouraging advances in the emerging sub-discipline of behavioural systems science/cultural analysis, in which many promising approaches to dealing with important societal and global issues are grounded;
fostering current experimental, applied, and conceptual analyses related to social issues and behavioural systems analysis, for example through worldwide publication (e.g., scientific journal Behavior and Social Issues) and/or other dissemination modalities (e.g., social media, conference presentations etc.);
encouraging behaviour scientists and practitioners to take practical action challenging oppression, in solidarity with those who are most at risk;
expanding public awareness of behaviour analytic and cultural analytic principles and practices that can contribute to addressing social issues; and
expanding presentations and programming related to social issues at the ONTABA annual convention, the ABAI annual convention and other scientific and professional venues.
Activities of the O-BFSR SIG will include, but are not limited to:
Meetings (i.e., amongst board members, with varying groups etc.)
Workshops
Journal club/literature reviews
Publications (e.g., Newsletter)

Membership is open to all persons interested or actively engaged in disseminating behaviour analytic concepts and principles to topics of social importance.
Membership fees are values-based. This allows individuals to decide how much they would like to donate. Your fee goes to financing prizes for the ONTABA poster award, marketing and paying for speakers at conferences hosted by O-BFSR. Every year prior to the ONTABA conference you will be sent an email reminder of membership fees or you may make an e-transfer at any time to BFSR.Sig@gmail.com.
Membership shall be in one of three classes:
1. Full Member
Any individual who has completed post-secondary education (e.g., diploma, bachelor, certificate etc.) in a discipline directly related to or involving behaviour analysis and whose professional commitment includes teaching, research, and/or practice in behaviour analysis may apply for membership in this category. Full members must be current ONTABA members and full members may vote on membership decisions of the SIG.
2. Affiliate Member
Any member evidencing interest in the discipline of behaviour analysis, but lacking formal education therein, may apply for this class of membership. Affiliate members are not required to be current ONTABA members. Affiliate members are non-voting members.
3. Student Member
Any individual currently pursuing formal education in the discipline of behaviour analysis may apply for membership in this category. Student members are not required to be current ONTABA members.
Such application must be accompanied by documentation certifying the applicant’s student status. Student members are non-voting members.
